Disrupted Layer, Solo Show at the Israel Museum Archaeology Wing, 2023
Curators: Sally Haftel Naveh and Tali Sharvit

In the exhibition, Gotesman takes liberties in unraveling the structured narrative of the permanent exhibition, creating timeless, hybrid sculptures that feature alchemic and anachronistic combinations. His in-depth contemplation reveals the deliberate differences and discrepancies between the contemporary works and the ancient objects, the unexpected and sometimes ironic encounters between them.

Beyond their material and stylistic resemblance to the wing's displays, Gotesman's works propose a personal statement about our own times, whether in a sharply critical or a humorous tone. Their overarching theme is human nature – man's needs, drives, and weaknesses – alongside the exploration of purely artistic concepts, such as replication, restoration, and cultural appropriation.
